Why I Blog

I sketch my winged heart and write a haiku every day.  It is a creative and spiritual practice for me.  It exercises my creative muscles and aligns me with my heart and soul.  It has evolved into a dialogue with my heart.

I blog to share the value (well at least to try to share it) that I experience as I access and express the wisdom and creativity of my heart.

In 1978 I received the inner guidance to “always follow your heart in all ways”.  This was the first message I noted with words and image that I received from my heart.

I joked for years that I did not know how to “always follow my heart” especially in “all ways”.  I am st
ill a student of this advice.  It was a strong message and I created a line of greeting cards and a poster- my first experience of publishing in 1980.

I also joked that I would be selling the poster until I understood the message!  I gave away more posters than I sold.  It really felt like a message I was supposed to share in some way.  It has stayed with me like a guiding light, a deep anchor into my own psyche and soul.

I blog for almost the same reason that I draw and paint. I need to. If I don’t do something creative (for me it is drawing,  painting or writing) on a regular basis, the energy of it backs up on me (like clogged plumbing) and I get depressed or worse.  I have resisted and avoided sharing and find it painful to withhold what wants to be drawn, written and shared.  It is part of allowing the flow of energy to move through me from my heart and out into the world.

I’m a lil’ tea pot

here’s my handle! here’s my spout!

open me up, pour me out!

fill to overflow

In 2010, I was asked “what could you do for 5 minutes a day that would improve your health?” The answer emerged like a flower blooming abruptly in my mind!  The first thought was “ draw! ”  As I began my first sketch, the haiku pushed it’s way into the mix!   I learned haiku in high school and always loved it! Words have almost always accompanied my art work in some form.

The haiku seems to help focus my mind and bring the words into essence.  Creativity has been defined at times as “bringing order out of chaos” and I find that this daily practice of creating the combination of a drawing and a haiku holds the focus to my heart and brings order out of the chaos of my mind.  This is the first one I created in 2010.

song of my hearts word

Why do I blog?  I blog for my own health and well being first.  I blog with a hope that by sharing my process and my creations, it might encourage others (you!) to explore the creativity and wisdom that lives within the heart.  For more go to the “About” page.

celebrate your heart

invite joy to the party

joy rises within

find your heart in all you do

follow your heart in ALL ways
