Staying focused on creative purpose in a chaotic world can be challenging. So many thoughts competing for your attention. So many opportunities, daily, to become distracted, confused and discouraged.
How do you stay focused on your creative purpose? Do you have a daily practice that helps you?
First you need to identify your golden thread. What is your golden thread? What keys lead you to your golden thread?
My golden thread is a weaving of several strands that include intention, heart, poetry and drawing. A daily practice of attuning to my heart and expressing what I find in words and image helps to keep my eyes and heart focused on my purpose, on my direction and on the calling of my heart.
I was reminded of a poem that I wrote in 1986 about “the poet”. It seems to honor that deeper part of me that sources inspiration. This was written pre haiku addiction.
Recently I had a few days when I was overwhelmed by confusion and doubt. My heart responded in my daily practice with a message. When I first drew it I did not realize that image included a golden thread of a circle:
when confusion reigns
and alignment can’t be seen
even so, Love holds
Continuing my daily practice and my intention to attune and align with my heart (my golden thread), the following day the message was:
however it winds
or “appears” to be winding
Love makes the way straight
hold onto Loving
and It’s golden thread
Sometime during that week, I also came across an image of “string theory” which looked to me very much like my experience! So I had some fun with Photoshop and haiku and this is the Heart Haiku image that emerged:
amidst the chaos
can you follow the gold thread
of your Soul’s purpose
